First Student to Graduate From College
Peace Girl Graduates from CFRAV
Peace Sisters is thrilled to announce that one of the students in our program has received her diploma from CFRAV-5 (part of the ITI-UNESCO network) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Soube Zénabou completed her course of study in the Performing Arts, and we anticipate she will go on to a successful career of writing, directing and acting. Soube was also the first student supported by Peace Sisters to graduate from high school after we expanded our program beyond the middle school level in 2015.
During a field visit to Dapaong in April 2018, board member Alastair Greeves made the acquaintance of Soube and got to see her in action. Soube took a lead role during the girls’ welcome celebration by singing and playing the comical character of a village elder in a sketch comedy that the girls performed. Alastair reported at the time that, “This is a girl to be watched because she has a big future ahead of her! She was not shy at all when she performed in front of a large audience.”
Just graduating from high school in Togo is a remarkable achievement that very few students will ever attain. This accomplishment opens the door not only to pursuing a more advanced career, but also creates an opportunity to broaden the girls’ horizons through potentially studying abroad as Soube did.
More Girls Strive for Higher Education
Since there is no university campus in Dapaong (where Peace Sisters operates), most of the high school graduates in our program will have to move to larger cities to attend the University of Lomé or another school.
Peace Sisters estimates that the cost of higher education can total around $1,000/year for each girl. Comprised in this cost is:
tuition
books
room & board
transportation
With so many more girls striving to achieve a higher education, Peace Sisters sincerely hopes that we will be able to expand our fundraising to underwrite the increased costs.
Thank you for your support!
