A Gala Event
Making a Difference...
And Making it Fun!
One of the many great perks of having Kathleen Hanna as our Ambassador is that she brings us attention from people who might otherwise never have heard of us. Peace Sisters, who? Togo, where? (The answer to that last one is West Africa!)
Along with Kathleen's wonderfully activist-minded fans, she has also put Peace Sisters on the radar for many of her husband, Adam Horovitz's fans. This synergy with the Beastie Boys community recently culminated in a Gala Event in the UK that benefited Peace Sisters, and both Kathleen & Ad-Rock pitched in to make this fundraiser a smashing success. You can check out their lovely video on our Facebook Page!
The Beastie Revolution: A Gala Event was put on by a Facebook Fangroup called Sure Shot Beastie Boys. This generous community has held online fundraisers for Peace Sisters for a couple years running, and early this year one of their organizers, Jim Dee, reached out to Peace Sisters to invite us to participate in their first in-person Gala. The sold-out event took place at Alder Bar in Sheffield on July 16th.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who works
so hard to Make it Fun to Make a Difference!!
Peace Sisters was thrilled to get involved, and when Kathleen found out about it she quickly offered not only to make a promotional video with Adam but to get him to dig through some of his personal Beastie Boys memorabilia and donate several autographed items for the event auction.
Luckily one of our Board Members, Alastair Greeves, lives in the UK and was able to represent us that day! And we were also invited to create a page for the event program and screen the following short video about our work:
And last but certainly not least, THANK YOU to all the artists who donated their performances and everyone else who made this event such a success: The Beast Decoys, DJ Woody, Pawski, Powlo, Figure of Wax, Corduroy Frames, Phil Nicholls, Tom J Newell, Kat’s Whiskers, Alder Bar Sheffield, and Mills Hi-Fi.
