Dressed for Success

Peace Girls wearing newly sewn uniforms

Comfort & Learning

We at Peace Sisters have long believed that the best learning happens when a student feels comfortable in her classroom.

For several years we have been providing maxi pads to the Peace Girls so they won't miss school when they have their periods - most schools in Togo do not have running water in their bathrooms, which can lead to considerable embarrassment!

But it is not only during her period that a girl can feel ashamed to show up for class. Uniforms are required in all Togolese schools, and oftentimes they become threadbare after they are handed down and worn for many years.

100 girls have received new uniforms sewn by local seamstresses!

A Win-Win!

By providing new uniforms to students, Peace Sisters has also brought new opportunities for local seamstresses. These formidable small business owners have long served as role models for other girls by demonstrating how to earn an income and provide for their families.

And though many seamstresses have not completed a formal education, they are teachers in their own right, often taking several apprentices under their wing to help girls launch a career!
